Okay, so I saw this Prada Cleo bag online the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it.” But then I saw the price tag, and I was like, “Yeah, maybe not.” So, I got this wild idea to try and make one myself. I mean, how hard could it be, right? (Famous last words, I know.)
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what this bag was all about. Turns out, it’s a remake of a design they had back in the 90s. It’s got this cool, curved shape and it’s made of leather. I spent a good chunk of time just staring at pictures of it online, trying to get a feel for the size and how it all goes together.
Gathering Supplies
Next, I went on a mission to find some materials. I hit up a few local craft stores and managed to find some leather that looked pretty close to the real deal. I also grabbed some thread, needles, and a few other tools that I thought I might need. I even found a buckle that looked kind of like the one on the Prada bag, so that was a win.
The Process
I started by making a pattern. I basically just drew out the shape of the bag on some paper, cut it out, and hoped for the best. Then came the scary part: cutting the leather. I’m not gonna lie, I was sweating bullets. I took it slow, double-checked every cut, and somehow managed to get all the pieces cut out without messing up too badly.
Sewing it all together was definitely the hardest part. I’ve done some sewing before, but nothing this complicated. I started with the main body of the bag, then added the sides and the bottom. There were a few times I had to rip out some stitches and start over, but I eventually got it all together.
The flap was another challenge. I wanted it to have that same curved shape as the original, so I had to do some creative stitching. I ended up adding some extra padding to give it some structure, which seemed to work pretty well.
Finishing Touches
Once the main part of the bag was done, I added the buckle and the strap. I found a long piece of leather that I cut to the right length and attached it to the sides of the bag. It wasn’t perfect, but it was functional. Then it’s time to find a place to have my bag refurbished. I mean, I just made it myself and I know my skill is not that good. I found a store called Modern Leather Goods. It seems they can do refurbishing for Prada. Great! I take my bag to the store immediately.
Finally, after a long journey, I got my remade Prada Cleo bag! And I just went out with my friends with this bag!
The Result
So, is it an exact replica of the Prada Cleo? Absolutely not. It’s got its flaws, and it’s definitely not as polished as the real thing. But you know what? I made it myself, and I’m pretty darn proud of it. It’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s worth taking on a challenge, even if you don’t quite nail it. Plus, I saved a ton of money, which is always a good thing.
Would I do it again? Probably not anytime soon. It was a lot of work! But it was definitely a fun experiment, and I learned a lot along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll try making another bag someday. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy my homemade, kinda-sorta Prada Cleo.
