Okay, so I’ve been eyeing the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now, and let me tell you, the struggle to choose between the hesalite and sapphire versions was real. The hesalite one was a bit cheaper, but I eventually went for the sapphire.
I tried on the Speedmaster Professional Sapphire. I like a watch that has some presence on my wrist, but I definitely didn’t want something that would totally take over. The sales guy, of course, told me it looked amazing – they always do, right? But honestly, I think he was right this time. It felt substantial but not overwhelming.
- Research, Research, Research: I spent hours looking up stuff online. There’s so much out there about these watches!
- Trying It On: This was key. I needed to see how it felt and looked on my own wrist.
- Asking Around: I talked to a few people who own Speedmasters. Got some good insights there.
My Decision Process
I saw a full set of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch sapphire sandwich with extra straps online. It was marked as “like new” and unworn, from 2021, and it came with the original box and papers. That got me even more interested, I am not gonna lie. I mean who wouldn’t want all that original stuff.
People online were saying you could find a brand new Sapphire Moonwatch for like $3,000 to $5,000, but I didn’t see any prices like that at the official stores or authorized dealers. Maybe I just was not looking hard enough, but I doubt it.
From what I read, spotting a fake Speedmaster can be tricky. Some things to watch out for are the spacing or placement of the little dials inside, the markings on that outer ring (the tachymeter), and just the overall quality of the watch case and bracelet. If it feels cheap or poorly made, that’s a red flag for sure.
I learned that sapphire crystal is tougher than hesalite. It’s made of some kind of aluminum oxide crystal stuff. It’s supposed to be way more resistant to scratches and keeps the watch looking good for longer. Plus, it makes the watch face clearer, so you can see all the details better.
Also, these Speedmasters are kinda special because of their history and some limited edition versions. That makes them more valuable to collectors and stuff. I guess it’s like with anything rare – the rarer it is, the more people want it, and the more it’s worth. It’s crazy how that works but also pretty cool.
So, after all that, I pulled the trigger and got the sapphire version. No regrets so far! It’s a beautiful watch, and I’m really happy with it. It was not cheap, but I feel like it was worth it for something I’ll have for a long time.
The whole experience was a bit of an adventure, but I think anyone who likes watches will agree that finding “the one” is an awesome feeling. If you’re thinking about getting a Speedmaster, I’d say do your research, try them on, and go with your gut!
