Okay, so, I got this idea the other day to remake a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5713/1. I’ve always been a fan of this watch. It’s just so beautiful, but way out of my price range, you know?
First thing I did was a ton of research. I scoured the internet, reading everything I could find about the Nautilus 5713/1. I looked at a bunch of pictures, watched some videos, and even found a few forums where people were talking about it. And I found it’s not easy to get it in normal ways.
Then, I started looking for parts. This was tricky. I mean, where do you even find parts for a Patek Philippe? It’s not like they sell them at the corner store. But I managed to find a few places online that sell used parts, and I even found a couple of watchmakers who were willing to sell me some of the parts I needed.
Once I had all the parts, I started putting the watch together. This was the most challenging part, but also the most rewarding. I took my time, made sure everything was perfect. It’s not the same as the real thing. It measures 41.7 mm in diameter, 7.4mm in thickness. And it took me a few weeks, but eventually, I got it all together.
And let me tell you, it’s beautiful. I know it’s not the real thing, but it’s close enough for me. And the best part is, I made it myself. That’s something I’m really proud of.
The last thing I did was I also bought a wooden box for my watch. To make it more like a real one, right? The clasp of the box is shaped like a Patek’s ardillon buckle, looks good.
Here’s a breakdown of what I did:
- Researched the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5713/1.
- Sourced parts from various online retailers and watchmakers.
- Assembled the watch.
- Bought a wooden box.
It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And I love it. It’s a reminder that even if you can’t afford the real thing, you can still create something beautiful with a little bit of effort and creativity.
So, if you’re thinking about doing something like this, I say go for it. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end. Just be prepared to spend some time and money, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from other watch enthusiasts.
