Okay, so I wanted to try my hand at finding a really good copy of the OMEGA Ω Co-Axial Master Chronometer 45.5mm. Not those cheap knock-offs you see everywhere, but something that really looks like the real deal.

I started my search by digging through forums, and man, there’s a lot of talk about fake Seamasters. It’s wild! I saw posts from years ago, like one in December 2019 about a high-quality fake Seamaster 300, and another one from September 2019 about fake Seamasters up for auction. There was even a thread from June 2019 talking about what happened to new Seamasters 300m. These threads got me thinking, “How do I even spot a good fake?”

Then I stumbled upon some articles about how to identify fake Omega watches. I learned that Omega is one of those super recognizable luxury brands, so of course, there are tons of fakes out there. I saw some tags like “Fake Omega Watch with World Time” and stuff about “Luxury Watches” and “Omega SA”. That’s when I realized this wasn’t going to be easy.

I spent hours, maybe even days, looking through different websites. It’s a jungle out there! I found some that looked pretty legit at first glance. The pictures were good, the descriptions sounded convincing, but I kept remembering what I read in those forum posts.

  • First thing I looked for were inconsistencies in the dial. On the real ones, everything is perfectly aligned and spaced. On some fakes, the numbers or markers were slightly off.
  • Then I checked the logo. The Omega logo is super precise, and on many fakes, it was either too thick or too thin, or just not quite right.
  • The hands were another telltale sign. On the genuine watches, the hands are very sharp and well-defined. Some of the fakes had hands that looked a bit rough or uneven.
  • I also looked at the movement through the case back. This is where it gets tricky because some fakes use really good movements. But I found that the finishing on the genuine Omega movements is just immaculate. You can see the difference if you look closely.

After comparing tons of pictures and reading a lot of descriptions, I finally found one that looked really good. It passed all the tests I could think of based on what I learned. I mean the details were crazy close to the original OMEGA. The weight, the feel, everything was almost spot on, just with some tiny, tiny differences that you’d only notice if you were a real watch nerd.

In the end, I think I did a pretty good job, at least for a first-timer. Finding that good of a replica was quite the experience. I definitely learned a lot about what to look for and how careful you have to be when you’re dealing with high-end watches. This whole process turned out to be a real eye-opener for me. I am so into watches now!
