This bag, you see, it’s called a Prada Galleria, that’s what they tell me. Fancy name, right? I seen it online, all shiny and new. This one, they say it’s “small,” and made of that Saffiano leather. Sounds like somethin’ special, but I don’t know nothin’ about that kinda stuff.
Now, I ain’t never owned a real Prada. Too much money for my blood. But I seen ’em. Women carryin’ ’em, lookin’ all fancy. I figure, why not try to make one? I had some old leather scraps from fixin’ Pa’s old work boots. Tough stuff. Not as smooth as that Prada leather, but it’ll do. I ain’t goin’ to no fancy party, just need somethin’ to hold my things.
I seen pictures of the real Prada Galleria bag, the small one. It got them two handles on top. And a strap, so you can sling it over your shoulder. That’s handy. I like that. I tried to copy that with my leather. Cut out the pieces, sewed ’em together. My fingers ain’t as nimble as they used to be, but I got it done. It ain’t perfect, mind you. Stitchin’ is a bit wonky in places. But it holds together. That’s what matters.
This Saffiano leather, they say it’s special. Treated somehow. Makes it tough, I guess. My leather’s tough, too. Been through a lot, that old leather has. Seen rain and mud and everything in between. It ain’t gonna get all shiny like that new stuff, but it’ll last. That’s what you want in a bag, somethin’ that lasts.
That real Prada, it comes in a fancy box, they say. All black and shiny, with that name on it, Prada. Big letters. Mine? I just wrapped it in an old cloth. Don’t need no fancy box. It’s what’s inside that counts, right?
They say the real one got a card with it. Tells you it’s real, a genuine Prada. Got a number on it, and all that. Mine don’t need no card. I know it’s mine. I made it. That’s all that matters. It’s like that Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, but it ain’t. It is my version.
Some folks, they want the real thing. They pay big money for it. They say you can get it cheaper, somethin’ called “off.” Up to 70% off, even 90% off. What does that mean? Is it still a Prada bag if it’s 90% off? That is something I don’t know. I don’t need to know that. I got my bag. I know what I pay for it. The leather, the work. That’s enough for me.
- My bag got two handles, just like that Prada.
- My bag got a strap, too. A bit rough, but it works.
- My bag ain’t shiny and new, but it’s strong.
- My bag is made by my hands, that is better than any Prada.
Maybe someday I’ll see one of them real Prada Galleria bags up close. Maybe touch that fancy leather. But for now, I’m happy with mine. It’s a good bag. It does what it’s supposed to do. And it’s mine. That’s worth more than any fancy name or any fancy price.
This bag, it ain’t no Prada. But it’s my bag. And that’s all that matters. That fancy store, they sell ’em for a lot. I heard it’s called Saks. I ain’t never been there. Don’t need to. I got everythin’ I need right here. If you want a Prada, go buy one. But if you want a bag that is made with these hands, then you come to me. This Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, you can remake it. You can make it your own. Just like I did.
I seen another one, a “mini-bag,” they call it. Even smaller. Black, too. All them bags, they look the same to me. Just different sizes. Mine ain’t black. It’s the color of old leather. The color of hard work. I like it that way. Don’t need no fancy color.
This Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, it’s just a bag. Like any other bag. But folks, they make a big fuss over it. I don’t know why. A bag’s a bag. It’s what you put in it that matters. Your money, your keys, your little things. That’s what’s important. Not the name on the outside.
