Man, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Planet Ocean 600m for a while now, and I finally pulled the trigger. Let me tell you about the whole process.

First off, I spent weeks, maybe even months, researching. I was looking at all sorts of dive watches, but the Planet Ocean kept calling my name. I’d heard great things about its accuracy and how tough it is, thanks to the Omega Cal. 601 movement they used to put in them, so that got me interested to begin with.

Then, I started digging into the details. I mean, this thing is rated for 600 meters (or 2,000 feet)! That’s way deeper than I’ll ever go, but it’s cool to know it can handle it. It’s like buying a 4×4 even if you don’t go off-roading – you know it’s got the capability, and that makes me feel good about its durability in general.

The size was a big thing for me. I don’t have huge wrists, so I didn’t want something that looked ridiculous. They make them in different sizes, from 39.5mm to 45.5mm. I tried on a few at the store, I even tried both the classic and the chrono version. However, I do not like the chrono because it is too thick, so I gave up the chrono version, which was a bit of a process, let me tell you. Finally I went with the 39.5mm stainless steel one. It’s about 14.2mm thick, which is just right. Not too chunky, but still feels substantial.

  • Went to the boutique, tried on a few different sizes.
  • Compared it to the Seamaster Diver – nice watch, but the Planet Ocean just felt better on my wrist.
  • Checked out the case back – it’s engraved, which is a nice touch.
  • Asked a million questions about the movement and the water resistance.

The other thing I noticed was how many people talked about the Seamaster Aqua Terra too. Apparently, those are inspired by the ocean as well, with wave patterns and stuff. They’re beautiful, but I was really set on a proper dive watch like the Planet Ocean.

Making the Decision

After all that, I finally decided to go for it. It wasn’t cheap, but I figured it’s an investment. Something I can wear for years, maybe even pass down someday. Plus, it’s just a damn good-looking watch. The whole process of researching, comparing, and finally buying it was a bit of an adventure, but totally worth it.

So, there you have it. That’s the story of how I ended up with this beauty on my wrist. It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still loving it. This piece is really, really beautiful, and more importantly, it is a reliable timepiece that I think I will be using for years to come.
