Okay, here we go, let’s talk about my little project of trying to get that Rolex GMT-Master II “Root Beer” look without, you know, actually buying a real one.
I’ve always loved the look of that two-tone “Root Beer” bezel on the Rolex GMT-Master II, man, it’s a beauty. But let’s be real, dropping that much cash on a watch? Not in my world. So, I figured, why not try to get that vibe on a watch I already own? A little DIY project, you know?
First, I started poking around online. I mean, I was just browsing, mostly looking at pictures of the real deal, getting a feel for the colors, that brown and black ceramic bezel, and how it looks in different light. It is kind of like those shopping ads you see everywhere, always saying “great deals on all kinds of stuff”. Well I found a seller in Amazon that has this kind of bezel, so I made the order.
Then came the scary part. I had to take apart the bezel of my watch. I was sweating, I won’t lie. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube first and just took it really slow. Used some tools I had lying around the house, nothing fancy. It was a bit of a struggle, but I finally got the old bezel off.
Putting on the new bezel was a whole other thing. It’s like those bezels are designed to only go on at the factory or something. I had to line everything up just perfect. Pressed down, wiggled it a bit, and prayed I didn’t break anything. Seriously, my hands were shaking the whole time. Took me a good hour of fiddling and adjusting, but I finally got it on.
And let me tell you, seeing it all put together, it was worth it. I mean, it’s not a Rolex, not even close, but it’s got that “Root Beer” thing going on, and I did it myself! It looks pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I wear it all the time now, and I get a kick out of it every time I look at it.
Final Touches
- Polished the watch case to make it shine.
- Cleaned the new bezel to get rid of any fingerprints.
- Set the time and date.
It was a fun little project, you know? Learned a few things about watches, and ended up with something unique. That is what I always want to do, make the normal things to be special. Maybe I’ll try something like this again sometime, who knows!
