Alright, so a while back, I got this itch to mess around with watches, specifically, to try and make my own version of the Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Rendez-Vous Moon. I’d seen some talk online about these high-end replicas, especially the Rendez-Vous Tourbillon and the Duomtre Quantime Lunaire, and people seemed pretty impressed with the quality. It got me curious, you know?
First thing I did was look around online for existing replicas of the Rendez-Vous Moon. Honestly, I didn’t find much that I liked. They all felt a bit off, not quite hitting that sweet spot of looking good without being too obvious. So, I thought, “Why not just try to put one together myself?” I mean, how hard could it be, right?
I started hunting for parts. I needed a case that was kind of like the original, and I did find a decent rectangular one that was roughly the right size. Then came the dial. I managed to snag one that had a similar vibe to the real Rendez-Vous Moon, with that elegant, kind of dreamy look. For the movement, I went with a quartz one. I figured it’d be thinner and keep better time, which is always a plus.
Putting it all together was a bit of a challenge. I had to be real careful not to mess up the dial or the hands, and I really took my time with it. I did the assembly myself. I’m not exactly a watchmaker, but I’ve tinkered with a few things before, so I felt okay about it.
