Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this watch project for a while now, and I gotta say, it’s been a real trip. I’ve always been into these fancy Jaeger-LeCoultre watches, especially that Rendez-Vous Moon model. It’s just so classy, you know? But, uh, let’s be real, I don’t have that kind of cash lying around. So I thought, why not try to make my own, a copycat version? Yeah, I know it’s not the real deal, but it’s a fun project, right?
First things first, I spent like a ton of time online, just scrolling through forums and websites, trying to figure out where to even start. I mean, there’s so much junk out there, it’s hard to know what’s legit. Finally, I found this one seller that seemed pretty cool. They had a bunch of good reviews, and people seemed happy with their stuff. I figured, what the hell, let’s give it a shot.
I ordered the parts I needed, all the little pieces to make it look like the real thing. This seller even had, like, a fake moon dial, which was pretty sweet. It’s not exactly the same as the real watch, I noticed the hour markers are a bit different, too, but who’s gonna notice, right? And the moon on the real one, from the pictures I’ve seen, it looks kind of flat anyway. I think I can do it better!
The Tricky Part: Putting It Together
Then came the hard part: actually putting this thing together. Man, it was way tougher than I thought it would be. Those little screws and gears, they’re so tiny! I almost lost a few of them on the floor. I had to use, like, tweezers and a magnifying glass just to see what I was doing. My fingers felt like sausages, honestly. There were a few times I almost gave up, not gonna lie.
- I started with the base, you know, the back of the watch.
- Then I carefully placed the fake movement inside. It’s the thing that makes the watch tick, but it’s not like a real Jaeger-LeCoultre movement.
- Next up were the hands. Man, those were a pain to get on straight. I think I messed up a couple of times and had to redo them.
- And then the dial. I gotta say, getting that fake moon phase thing in the right spot was a real challenge.
Fake Moon
After hours and hours of tinkering, I finally got it all together. And you know what? It actually looked pretty good! I mean, it’s not perfect, but it’s got that classic style I was going for. The fake moon even moves and everything! It was a good feeling to complete the project. I wore it around the house for a few days, just to see how it felt. It’s definitely not as fancy as a real Jaeger-LeCoultre, but it’s my little creation, and I’m kind of proud of it.
I’m not sure what I’ll do next but maybe I’ll try to make another imitation, there are a few other watch designs that I like, maybe a Master Ultra Thin model, or a Reverso. But, man, I need a break from tiny screws for a while.
